The Basmaji Residential Building

Located in the central residential area of Aleppo, the Basmaji residential building looks no different from its surrounding neighbors.  However, the special seismic design as well as the selection of its structural system makes it surpass its neighbors from both safety and economical points of views.

A combination of ribbed (block infill) slabs with flat beams was used for the reception and dining rooms, while a traditional solid slabs with drop beams were used for the kitchen and the bedrooms.  This combination proved to be the most economical, yet the most desirable by architects.

(The building was put in service in 2006).
